Festival origin
Dragon Boat Festival, with over 2,000 years of history, originated in ancient China as a ritual to ward off diseases and honor dragons. It's best known for commemorating Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet who drowned himself. Traditions like dragon boat racing and eating zongzi stem from locals' attempts to protect his body. The festival also features customs like hanging mugwort for protection. Recognized by UNESCO in 2009, it remains a vibrant cultural celebration.
